At Islington Smiles, we carry out a mouth cancer screening during every check-up as part of our commitment to preventive care.

What is a mouth cancer screening?

A mouth cancer screening happens during your regular check-up and is simply an additional way for us to keep an eye on your overall oral health and wellbeing. As your dental care team, we are in the most appropriate position to diagnose mouth cancer and consider it part of our duty of care to all our patients.

What happens during a screening?

We will simply perform a check of the mouth for signs of cancer, such as red or white spots, sores, lesions, or abnormal swellings. It’s a simple screen and minimally invasive, but we do understand that it can be worrying or daunting for some patients.

What happens if you find something?

If we find anything that causes us concern, we’ll either ask you to come in for a follow-up appointment or refer you to a specialist.
